gardenCommunity Gardening Tip!!!: Do you want to see your plants boost in their yield? Try blanketing the soil surrounding your garden plants with a layer of leaf mulch. About 2-3 inches will do. It helps retain soil moisture, prevent weeds from sprouting and it insulates the soil, cooling the soil on hot days. With less moisture loss you can speed plant growth. Leaf mulching will also attract earthworms and builds good crumbly soil texture. Rooted in Community (RIC) is a national grassroots network that empowers young people to take leadership in their own communities. We are a diverse movement of youth and adults working together and committed to fostering healthy communities and food justice through urban and rural agriculture, community gardening, food security, and related environmental justice work. Every year, RIC youth and adults from across the country get together for an annual conference to share our work with each other.
