Congratulations, 2013 Leinbach Scholars

Published Tuesday, Aug 27, 2013

On Saturday, August 17, DIG welcomed Phil & Nancy Leinbach to celebrate and award the second annual Leinbach Scholarship for DIG Youth to 3 remarkable DIG Alums: Tony, Vianey and Kaleb.  As she presented the awards, Nancy gave each a beautiful send-off as they prepare to leave for school.  We echo Nancy’s sentiments (in italics below), and wish these youth success and courage as they go out into the wide world:

Congratulations, Kaleb, on receiving a DIG scholarship. What you have discovered about yourself and the value of working in a supportive community is the real reward.  In taking this next step — to continue learning and giving — you have prepared yourself with lessons from the SEEDS garden of experience.

Kaleb will begin his freshman year at Chowan University in Murfreesboro this fall.

Congratulations, Vianey, for this second year as a DIG scholar. What you have learned about yourself, about others, and about honoring the earth that supports us is the best award of all. You inspire us with the commitment you have made to conscious living and with what you are doing to GROW ever more aware of the place you can and will fill in the world.

Vianey is headed down the road to Chapel Hill for her sophomore year.

Congratulations, Tony, on receiving a DIG scholarship. What you have discovered about yourself and the respect available from others is the real reward. In taking the next step — to continue learning and growing — there will be more chances to push the limits and to sow SEEDS of opportunity for others.

Tony will begin his freshman year at NC A&T State University in Greensboro this fall.

The Leinbach Scholarship Fund was created by Phil & Nancy’s sons on the occasion of their 75th birthdays.  It will be used to support graduated DIG youth in pursuing advanced education and training. If you would like to support the growth of this fund, you may do so through the Triangle Community Foundation by selecting Choose A Fund and selecting “Philip and Nancy Leinbach Endowment for SEEDS Scholarships” in the drop down menu.  The Leinbachs have generously offered to match outside contributions to the fund over the next year, up to $2,500.  And – if the $2,500 is raised before December 31, 2013, the Leinbachs will contribute an additional $1,000!

Please note: while this is a tax-deductible contribution, it is not a donation to SEEDS.  Your acknowledgement and tax receipt will be from the Triangle Community Foundation.
