6th Annual Pie Social June 1, 2014- Seeking Pies and Skillshare Auction Donors!
Published Wednesday, Apr 30, 2014
SEEDS is beyond excited to be hosting the 6th Annual Pie Social on Sunday June 1st in our home – 706 Gilbert St.! This year’s Pie Social is going to be something to celebrate. Not only will we be bringing back the Skillshare Auction and Pie Contest , but we will also have a ribbon cutting ceremony and offer building tours of our newly renovated space throughout the event. This annual delicious event will offer ticket holders the opportunity to try different locally concocted pies, get to know SEEDS, meet the DIG Youth Crew, hang out in the garden and enjoy a beautiful day.
The Pie Social was started by the DIG Youth Crew to help raise funds for summer salaries. The Durham Inner-city Gardener (DIG) Program empowers high school youth to develop social entrepreneurial and leadership skills through growing food. We have a year round crew working the Market Garden and our crew doubles in the summer. Last year, the event raised $4,000 which funded 3 DIG Youth summer salaries. This year we hope to raise even more and support our growing Youth Crew.
GET INVOLVED!
We are currently seeking pie donations from community restaurants, local bakers, and your grandmother. Or if your skillset is other than baking, donate a free lesson to our skillshare auction . Last but not least, we need help before, during and after the event. Volunteers will get 2 tickets for pie slices and a free SEEDS tee shirt. Email Laurel to sign up to volunteer.
