Our Firm Belief in Equity

Published Thursday, Aug 24, 2017

To the SEEDS Community,

Over the last few weeks, we have watched a system of oppression come to the surface for all to see. It has been a sobering and disheartening time.

At SEEDS we believe in the capacity of all children to change the world. We cannot separate social justice from our service to children.

Our work is rooted in a firm belief in equity across race, ethnicity, sexual identity, gender identity and sexuality. In our programming, we actively take an anti-racist and anti-oppressive approach to educating the whole child. This approach manifests itself in our garden and kitchen, through understanding the history of our land, using restorative justice techniques, growing empathy, and ensuring that all voices are heard. As a staff, we are embarking on our own crucial conversations regarding racial equity and its importance in our daily interactions with students.

We believe in the power of people. A respect for life, the earth and each other has always been central to the work that we do.

We will continue to work to dismantle oppressive systems through the development of whole children. There is so much work to be done.

I invite you to come by SEEDS to continue this conversation with me, together.

With love and determination,

Jeff
