SUMMER CAMP FAQ

Registration and Payment

How much does it cost? 

Cost of camp is $175 per week.  Aftercare is $50 per week.  

How do I pay? 

A deposit is required at time of registration to hold a spot for your child. The remainder balance is due on or before the first day of camp in order for your child to attend.  We are unable to pro-rate camp weeks, you must pay for an entire week, even if your child is to miss one day.  

Is financial assistance available?  

Financial assistance is offered on a sliding scale determined by household size and annual income.  Online registration will automatically calculate your cost.   We will calculate your cost for in-person and telephone registration.  

How do I register my child?

You may register online, by calling us at 919-683-1197, or by visiting us at 706 Gilbert Street.  Registration is first come, first served and registration will close once we reach camp capacity.  At that time we will offer a wait list.  We will inform you at once if we have an opening.  

What if there is something you should know about my child regarding allergies, behavior, etc?: 

There is a space to supply this information on the online registration form. These may be indicated already on your application and if they are, we have made note of them.

Where is SEEDS?: 

Our garden is located at 706 Gilbert Street.  We will provide signage that will lead you to the entrance.  You can park on Elizabeth or Gilbert Streets for drop off there is an entrance to the garden from each street.

 

What to do (and not do), what to bring (and not bring)

Drop off and Pick up times and expectations: 

Summer camp runs from 8:30-3:30.  8-8:30 is drop off time, pick up time is 3-3:30pm.  Unless your child is enrolled in aftercare, please make every effort to pick up your child by 3:30.  Aftercare take place from 3:30-5:30.  Pick ups for after care can take place anytime between 5 and 5:30pm.  Please pick up your child no later than 5:30.   

What should my camper wear?  We will spend a significant amount of time outside in the garden.  For this reason, please have campers in clothes they can get dirty and closed-toed shoes for each day of camp.  Baseball caps and sunhats are also helpful.  If possible, it is very helpful if campers can be sun-screened and bug sprayed before they come.  We will happily reapply as necessary.

Do you provide snacks? 

We will provide a mid-morning snack each day prepared by campers using some of SEEDS’ own camper harvested produce.  Aftercare campers will receive a mid-afternoon snack.  

Should I pack a bagged lunch for my camper? 

Yes, please provide a labeled and bagged lunch for your child.  There is a possibility that we will again partner with a summerlunch program that will provide free lunches to our campers.  Lunches are very similar to what is served in Durham Public Schools.  This partnership is not yet confirmed.  There are times that kids will be cooking and eating food prepared during programs.  

What is Literacy Hour?:  

This year we are implementing a quiet hour after lunch in which campers will have story time, independent reading time, or reading tutoring.  We provide some books, but would appreciate if you could send books with your camper that are on his or her summer reading list for school.  

Please don’t allow your child to bring:

  • Cell phones or any electronic devices
  • Any Food or Drink, besides what is packed in their personal lunches.
  • Toys/Games from home

 

Cancellation and Refund Policy

What is your cancellation/refund policy?

You must notify us of cancellation two weeks prior to the first day of camp in order to receive a refund.  The deposit is non-refundable.      

What happens if my camper misses a day – will you refund payment?

We cannot offer refunds in the case of non-attendance. If campers do not attend the first day of camp and we are unable to reach you, your child’s spot will be given to those that are on our waiting list.
