Gratitude Tastes Like Warm Pumpkin Pie

The fresh roasted pumpkin pie cooled on the racks as the squash and turkey lasagna warmed up in the oven. Children scampered all around the kitchen, proud of a week’s worth of cooking and ready to eat! Everyone in the kitchen at once was feeling proud, grateful and excited to share the meal that soon would fill their bellies and warm their hearts.

On Thursday November 20th, SEEDS Children’s Program, Families, Staff and Volunteers gathered for a fantastic and delicious evening that the children had spent all week preparing. They roasted the pumpkins, sauteed the turkey and squash, salted the collard greens, and peeled the sweet potatoes – it was a busy week for them! The menu consisted of the following items:

Turkey Lasagna

Collard Greens

Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Pumpkin Pie

The meal was fabulous – the children could not stop sharing what they had done to help prepare the meal and numerous new friendships were made.  Thanks to Eastern Carolina Organics, all of the children got to go home with sweet potatoes and collard greens to cook for their family’s upcoming gatherings.
