Garden Coordinator (Part-Time, Temp to Hire)
Location: Durham, NC
Pay: $23/hour
Schedule: 20 hours/week | 90-day contract with option to renew
Availability: Occasional evenings and weekends required

Founded in 1994, SEEDS is a two-acre urban garden and kitchen classroom in the heart of Durham. Through growing, cooking, and sharing food, we develop the capacity of young people to respect life, one another, and the earth. Our work centers food justice, environmental stewardship, and youth development.
About the Role
The Garden Coordinator supports the care, maintenance, and stewardship of SEEDS’ gardens and outdoor spaces while assisting with community engagement and youth education programming. This role ensures our gardens are safe, productive, welcoming, and aligned with SEEDS’ values.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain SEEDS’ gardens, hoop houses, greenhouse, irrigation systems, and tools
Plan crop use, harvesting, distribution, and cover cropping
Coordinate mowing, weeding, and contractor support as needed
Lead community service workdays and volunteer groups
Assist with field trips and support the DIG Internship Program
Identify and propose garden improvement projects
Qualifications
Experience in small-scale farming or gardening
Comfortable with physical, outdoor work
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Commitment to social, economic, and environmental justice
Experience working with diverse communities
Flexible schedule and valid driver’s license
Working Conditions
Frequent standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and outdoor work in varying weather
